Greenwich Skip Hire Ban During London Olympics 2012

14 May 2012

Skips cannot be placed on the road from 27th June to 9th September 2012 in many parts of Greenwich, following an announcement released on 25th June 2012.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich council issued a list of roads affected categorising roads as ‘Core’, ‘Alternate’ and ‘Sensitive’. Applications for skip hire permits in roads marked Core and Alternate will be refused and for those marked ‘Sensitive’ a Greenwich engineer/inspector will decide if a skip hire license can be issued.

Greenwich’s ban on skip hire during the 2012 Olympics is likely to be followed by several other London boroughs in the next few weeks, as they look to make their busiest roads as efficient as possible to cope with the additional congestion expected during the period.

AnyJunk’s man and van rubbish clearance service is a simple, flexible and low-cost alternative to skip hire and will continue to operate as normal in Greenwich throughout the Olympics. However, we expect higher volumes of business as a result of London councils placing restrictions on skips during this time, so recommend customers book their waste collection as early as possible to avoid delays.
